Ok, the above only reflects on what I do and not who I am. I was born raised and educated in Detroit, MI. My first encounters with music took place at an early age and I became involved with percussion instruments through a friend of the family and later took formal guitar lessons but I preferred playing by ear. I played with loose bands off and on mainly at house parties. Musically I got side tracked by the old adage voiced by family in those days ... "get a real job."
I am degreed in the field of Mental Health Technology and minored in Substance Abuse.
I was a street poet during the 60's performing on street corners with a tamborine or congas. I frequented festivals, poetry gatherings and had a few lounge performances thrown in. My works had a militant flair and was influenced by the hair raising times of the era and I ain't just referencing afros either. I was first published in college in a publication called "Jam Session". Now I am resurrecting myself in the poetic and music realms and am amazed at the resurgence of Spoken Word and the gifted people involved in it on a global scale. In my style of Spoken Word which has been called different or unique I try and embody the West African Griots by embracing social, political and historic issues hence it becomes not just poetry but a form mixed with contemporary storytelling. I have been called the "Urban Griot" because of it so, I embrace that phrase. My music has also been called different and the only explanation I can give is that I see the world as a huge music mall and I attempt to blend or fuse various types in an attempt to create a unique sound which I hope would have a global feel. I also view music as a form of story telling and attempt to accomplish that via instrumentals rather than words. I sincerely hope that anyone that listens will like the presentations which were created for your pleasure!
