5. How do I find out what's going on here?
The What's hot on Hits emails are one of the BEST ways to find out what's going on here. Thedy B gives details in that email about upcoming events, hot topics, hot groups, etc. Read What’s Hot on Hits emails as there are always plenty of great things happening on hitsamillion.ning.com on almost a daily basis! The “What’s hot on Hit” section on the main page will also have highlights of things that are happening as well. But that section won't contain the full details that the What's hot on Hits email gives you.
6. What are the rules of the site?
a. No spam. Spam means sending out too many emails particularly about the same thing, sending messages every time you upload a new song or change your profile, or sending multiple messages about joining your website.
b. We ask that you do NOT send check out my new music messages here. If you want feedback on your music, you must join the group, The Listening Room, and ask for feedback from those members only! Or come to the Official Chat times where new music is being listened to and given feedback.
c. No disrespect.
d. No posting of banners or MySpace comment graphics except on your profile page, the Classifieds forum or the GrapHitz group.
e. No large promotional material on the site.
f. No posting of provocative or nude pictures.
g. No unrelated emails sent out to members of this site. You can only send out emails that pertain to music, the music business, or this site.
h. No posting of miscellaneous videos in the video section. The video section is reserved for music related videos of our members or music business, informational type videos. You can use the forums to post miscellaneous videos.
i. Do not post more than 10 pictures. Posting a lot of pictures decreases the bandwidth of the site, increases the cost, and slows the site down.
j. No posting of someone else's copywritten material unless you have express permission from the owners of the song.
k. No posting of non-Hits A Million players around the site! The only place besides your page where you can post your Hits A Million player is in the Listening Room group as a separate forum.
Obeying these 10 rules will help you remain a member. The rules are there to help us build a strong community that is built around information and not promotion and to keep the site free, free from spam, and free from offensive pics and behavior.
7. I want to meet new people here. What's the best way to do it?
Remember to network! You can network using the “advanced member” search button to find attorneys, beatmakers, rappers, songwriters, artists, etc as well as people by location. Networking here is best done through email, comments to members just introducing yourself/asking questions etc, adding friends, joining groups, participating in the chatroom, chatting during the Official Hits A Million Chat times, etc. While this community is small, take advantage of the opportunity to really get to know people. We do not permit the same type of marketing allowed on MySpace (posting of material over and over, posting the same material all over the site, spam, posting graphics, etc) and it will cause you to be removed from our network.
8. Why join a group?
The Groups here help you identify who has interests similar to yours so feel free to join as many groups as you like, start forums, and network with group members as that’s why they are there.
9. How do I get my music featured on the site?
Only the very best music is featured on the main page of the site. The featured music not only reflects you but Hits A Million, the company, and ALL the members of the site. So your music must be HOT, commercial sounding (i.e. have great lyrics, a gread sound, and be mixed) and not contain explicit lyrics. Members who have several hot tracks rather than just one are more likely to be the featured artist/producer/musician of the site. Lastly, your music must be uploaded to the site in order for us to add it to the featured player. In this way, we can feature more than one artist/producer/songwriter and give the most members the opportunity to be heard. So upload your music to this site.
10. What is Official Chat time?
Official Chat time is held every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. EST. That’s a time where we meet and greet, network, find out what’s going on with you, listen to music, get feedback, rate each other’s music, learn the business, and much more. That’s one of the quickest ways to meet people IF you post in the chatroom rather than lurk. Since we have more than one chatroom, you can network in either rooms.
11. How do I upload pictures to my profile?
It's important that you upload a picture to your profile as that is a requirement of the site. Go to the quick add box, located in the sign in/sign out box. Click it to see the drop down menu. It will take you through the steps on adding your pictures.
12. Where are the music business resources on the site?
Hits A Million is FILLED with great information and it's all over the site! The easiest way to find music business resources is to put a relevant subject into the search box located at the top right hand corner of the site. You can search things like "music business" "music industry" "music publishing" "songwriting" "song placement" "production" and much more to quickly find some of the information you are looking for.
