My problem is the R&B is not difined the way that It was when I was playing the genre on the air. It's more hip-hop, and it is promarily directed to teens and yonger adults under the age of 30.
I have an R&B album that I just finished featuring Uvee Hayes and Otis Clay, with arrangements by Tom Tom 84 and the finest musicians from Chicago and St. Louis, including The Dells, The Chi-Lites, Tyrone Davis' horns, Aretha's keyboard and organ player and The Emotions singing background.
My problem is that the radio stations and producers are looking for the younger demographic, i.e. under 35.
I was Midwest promotional director for MCA and ABC records, and I produced for Stax, CBS and other labels, but today I can't find a distributor or get a label deal. Am I living in a dream world thinking there is still an adult music mrket? Perhaps some of you club members can give me so direction.
