Why is there more talk about Chris Brown & Rihanna than who won a Grammy???

I mean dog, folks complain about the negative images that blacks get and yet every black station that I've listen to have mentioned it not once but over and over.

Did you hear Jay-Z's lyrics with Cold Play and how he talked about the price of success?

And what I don't understand is how some of those acts won over some of the R & B acts.

people respond to sensationalism...they want to be the first, out front on all the news...heck if you saw the Grammies you got all the news, this is something different...plus people also want to believe that their fave hero's are human just like they are...

I'll answer this with one simple sentence Thedy. Please are more interested in controversy instead of progress. That's why we have TMZ.

Real talk Mr. Adams and The Anointed Poet...

I dont even listen to the radio or watch TV, besides the news mostly on the weekends. And I still ave heard about this Chris Brown and Rihanna non-sense. Just shows you how fast negative news travels.

To Me the radio is poison, it deminishes or natural thinking. And I just dont have time for TV, at least when you watch TV you know its fake for the most part, so its just an escape from realism that you can turn on and off.

I'm with you: I only turn on my TV in times like this: things that I think are going to inspire me... like an awards show or something. I don't have time to sit and watch what's happening in everybody else's life when I got my own business to run. Besides the news pumps negativity almost 22 hours a day! I would likely have no hope right now if I watched, listened to and believed everything I see on TV.

is there a double standard though: is it somehow okay for black stations, black TV shows, etc to talk about what's going on and not white ones?

Tom Joyner says that it is the responsibility of Black Radio to report "our" news.

I'm rollin' with "The Big Bully" on this one.

I was SO happy to get in line to buy my DTV Converter box!

I don't watch enough TV for it to matter. Much of the content is available online anyway.

Let me pick out some polish for my new set of rabbit ears!

There is work to be done.

Since when did fans ever care about awards? Most of these people are caught up in the HYPE of their favorite artists, not their musical credibility. So wherever the HYPE goes, that's where the EYES go. Even if that means the precinct.

Only reason people even WATCH the Grammies is to see performances. The topic of discussion the next day isn't "who deserved the award", it's "who had the dopest performance at the show". Like Robert said, it's pure sensationalism. I don't even know why they still HAVE the Grammies. It would be one thing if people knew the Grammy criteria and could critically debate about it. But it usually goes, "I like this guy, so I think he should win." Why throw pearls to...?

I mean, kudos to the artists who won cuz they probably deserved to win, but don't be fooled into thinking awards carry much weight with the fans. Unless it's THEIR favorite artist winning, that is. Then it amounts to bragging rights.

Well I feel a few ways about this..... The reason that some of those acts won over the R&B acts is because most of the people that listen to those genres STILL BUY ALBUMS..... Popularity of most of the R&B acts would make you feel that they deserve those awards but when it comes to album sales, the artists careers are hurt because MOST of us who listen to them download their music rather than purchase. The reason that the Chris Brown and Rihanna situation is a big deal is because the are MULTI-PLATINUM, YOUNG ARTIST.. They are looked up to by many, many people.... fans and artists alike of all ages. Their careers have been taking off and putting them in the forefront of most headlines. That's a big deal. When they are portrayed a certain way to the PUBLIC EYE (successful, young, admirable) and then something as huge as DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is involved between them, it will be talked about over and over... Because all though they are regular human beings... their success and well-being matters to many... its not just about NEGATIVE news.... If they were the BEST performances at the Grammy's then they still would have been all over the headlines... This is only different because people are disappointed.

I don't care for the Grammies that much. I love Jazmine Sullivan, but Taylor switft didn't get any nominations?, but Jazmine got 5?. Something doesn't add up with the Grammies. No offence I felt that 3 groups/artists acually deserved the awards. 1. Adele 2. Cold Play 3. M.I.A. Did you see Jennifer Hudsens compitetion?, Boys 2 Men? Best R&B Album?. I don't have a problem with Ms. Hudson and my prayers are with her, but they pulled the sympathy card!!!!. Take a look for yourself... something aint right.

This is why there is more info on Chris Brown than the actual awards, As far as people wanting to see artist be human, that's not being human..... that's being a woman beater!!!!!! ya dig!!!

I agree. The Grammy's was so boring this year. It seemed like the World Music Awards. Because the people that should have been nominated or performing were not. I agree 100% with you!
