Why do all the old school artists like Jennifer Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Etta James get so upset with the new school artists like J Hudd and Beyonce? Here's a clip of Etta James getting mad at Beyonce for singing At last to President Obama???

I heard this MESS on the radio. First off, Etta James is too dawg on old to be acting like that. She has been in the business for ages & ,although being treated badly while in it, understands how things work. She knows that the movie , where Beyonce played Etta, has just been released, & should have expected beyonce to get some play. I felt that Ms. James sounded very ignorant. Yes, beyonce did sing a song that made Etaa a legend,but she was asked to do it, she didn't volunteer. I am not the biggest Beyonce fan, but she has been giving much respect to Etaa James from day 1 & didn't deserve to have her name thrown into some foolishness. As far as Etta's comment about Obama, she had to be drunk, that was, again, ignorant.

R E S P E C T! How would Beyonce feel if it were the other way around? Maybe if they had consulted Ms. James, had her there...R E S P E C T. By the way, did they mention her name? Ms. James was treated as though she were dead and gone. At least Ms. Franklin's hat is going into the Smithsonian. We can't make mistakes with our Legends. We live in a land with proper protocals & standards. Ms. James is from the old school and there is nothing wrong with showing R E S P E C T!

and in terms of "they" consulting Ms. James, they is the committee, not Beyonce. I think if anything should have been said, it would have been to the committee. Again, why blast another young artist for doing what was asked?

And here's the thing, imagine bringing a song to light again that nobody is singing, you've re-introduced a song to the world. Kids are singing it now, teens, adults, and even older adults who had forgotten about the song... made the song popular again... and then were told...now sit down HONNNNNNNNNN I got this, this is MY song.

Etta can't show any respect and pride to Beyonce for being the popular artist that she is, for working that song, and bringing her even back into the limelight? And if Beyonce were Etta, I'd say the same thing to Beyonce: stop dissing the young folks just because they're young and you're old!

Some older people want respect without showing it as if only they are entitled to respect.

Just like Ice T when he went after Souljah Boy and did the same thing Eta James said when she said she'd whipped B's a___!!!! That's appropriate???? Souljah Boy said essentially why don't you DO something about it if you feel that way? He said make another album. She could start her own tour with all the older artists. She could do so much more than simply be mad, disrespectful and bitter.

I hate to see all this bitterness, resentment, and anger come from the older generation within our community because of the SUCCESSSSSSSSSSS of the newer generation. It saddens me because it's like did you really want us to make it to the promised land?

Ya know, that's a very ironic statement, "Promised Land". Because even in the Bible, Moses led the Israelites out of captivity and allllll the way to the Promised Land, but then died outside of it, never setting foot inside because of mistakes he made along the way. I think Beyonce did a great a job. Etta really shouldn't be upset. Beyonce look just like her with a voice just a great(well to me). But women are emotional creatures.
