Male artists in R & B and Hip Hop are singing to each other!

I went thru my music recently and I have TONS of music! I was looking to get some inspiration for some songs that I wanted to write. So I began checking out the male R & B artists whose music I have. I could find only a handful that I had bought!

I started asking myself why? I have lots of music by female artists! So why so low an inventory on male R & B artists? Then it hit me: I don't buy much of it because:

1) I don't relate to the content
2) while I like listening to the male artist, I don't "relate" as a female to the artist...i.e. can a sista have somebody to drool over! lol
3) Men are singing to men about men topics

Who else would relate to songs like I'm in love with a Stripper? Who else would relate to Same Girl? Bust it Baby? Two grown men fighting over street cred?

What happen to the LL's of Hip Hop who would rap to the ladies?

What happen to the Mint Condition of R & B that would sing and make a grown woman fall in love?

Where are the young adult male artists who can sing more about love and lovemaking? Is Robin Thicke all the R & B artists we can produce for the ladies?

I wonder where it became not so cool to sing to women and not just ABOUT women?

I wonder where it became not so cool to sing about love and not just about sex?

Why are male artists singing mainly to each other? in particular black men?

Is this due to the increase in homosexuality that men feel the need to talk about how hard they are?

oh heck naw: it's not because of lack of interest from the consumer! Don't believe that! As I said I was out LOOKING for music by male artists and I know I'm not alone! Women really want to support men who love women but many like me sometimes may be relying on the radio or concerts or word of mouth to help them discover the music. I'm not the average woman because I write so I buy music to get inspiration and research. Plus I have all of you now to discover new music :-)

Thedy, I don't know who those that you mentioned are singing to. I'm not in love with a stripper, sharing a girl with my boy, etc. Mint Condition is one of the best bands around. I love those kind of songs. I think the quality of music both musically & lyrically has dropped to what we have now. A lot of music is being made by people that aren't even musicians. We gone from doing it for the love and passion of music to doing it for the love of money. That's my take on it.

Well you're right: it's a result of music creators want to be assured that all their WORK is being compensated.

Yes, music is art but it's also work (you know that).

And then a part of that also is all the emphasis hip hop has placed on money.
