I see a lot of the major acts are moving to pop. Seems as if people aren't buying as much R & B. That could be attributed to a lot of different things but I wanted to find out if you're still in love with R & B? Were you disappointed at some of the normal acts turning pop like Brandy, Michelle Williams, Beyonce, and Chris Brown?
There you Go Knile---I think I even mentioned that in my initial reply to this discussion-- Its only a label-- Pop simply means Popular --Ya know Ya know Ya KNow --"ITS STILL R&B TO ME"
At the beginning I was into Techno, DnB and such electronic stuff. But after some time I realized that there were "more feelings" for hiphop and rnb ^^ I still listen to other styles like Breaks, DnB, Pop and so on but these my favorurites ;-)
I LOVE the Rhythm & Blues. It is soothing to my soul. It's the music that sings to your situation. I think the artist listed above have pop songs, but if you purchase their albums, you still hear some of their R&B material. Their singles are usually pop, but for the most part their project is still focused around R&B.

Well good R&B doesn't exist anymore unless it's artist like Eric Benet, D Angelo, Maxwell, Sean Hill and some others. When you really look at how the major record companies has promoted & marketed the stuff they call music that's playing on the radio now, it's depressing to hearing the same two track recordings with air-headed lyrics and auto tune pitch correction vocals and they call that the new R&B that's going pop! It's a shame to our R&B great(s) (Barry White, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Motown and the Philly Era). Now I'm not hating on what's out there because there's room for everyone but I can not get into non-talented acts that are fooling the masses with this disposable era, it's not real R&B in my honest opinion. Ms. Thedy B thanks for this post, I'm still in love with R&B Soul and Vocal Pop because it has the R&B sound. God bless.
Do I still love R&B ? That is the question and the answer is yes, but their is a generation gap in how r&B is presented to the public. In the sixty and the seventies the r&b music came from the soul, and its was more ballads etc real singers if you will. Now you have hiphop based r&b and thats the problem, because hiphop used to be seperate from the soul music. If you remember real r&b made you feel a certain way it touched your soul, what comes from the heart reaches the heart.
If you noticed most people when they hear old school r&b always start thinking back to a better life real love etc. thats because those artist wanted to give you a piece of their soul. Todays singers with the exception of soul artist neo soul sing for the money and you can't really vibe with these cats because its all about the money. The younger generation don't even slow dance no more that used to be our shit!!! Finally, going pop aint bad and yes I was glad when certain artist went pop because that meant they were popular.
these are not the view of everyone just my personal views your comments and feed back is welcom
i looooove rnb other than a couple of rap n gospel artists that's all i buy. this was one of the reasons i tried to stay a r kelly fan dude was doing his thang...then he had to piss on a kid. most of the albums u named i have n were not at all impressed. i grew up like alot of 30yr olds listening to the gap band, cool n da gang, stevie, marvin, isles, commodores n so many others. then mary j n jodeci hit the scene n believe it or not it was the death of what we loved. we subed the bass of the 808 o bass drum...what the hell is that all about. then we went from great singers to iffy at best. i never heard my dad talking about etta o patti o marvin o stevie having a bad performane. matter of fact i've been in audiences n they hand patti o stevie the mic n they wreck it from their seats. you give some of these artists now the mic n they need a certain one, adjust this, warm up n they still sound off.
it just is not the same from top to bottom...the quality of the media is better but the music is not.
