I see a lot of the major acts are moving to pop. Seems as if people aren't buying as much R & B. That could be attributed to a lot of different things but I wanted to find out if you're still in love with R & B? Were you disappointed at some of the normal acts turning pop like Brandy, Michelle Williams, Beyonce, and Chris Brown?

Is there really a choice for the Artist?----I Remember mentioning in one of our previous discussions that, these folks in the high seats today, are just number crunchers . One Artist comes out with a sound, a song, a look that just sweeps the nation and makes astronomical sales, THEN ERR BODY GONNA DO IT OR BE OUT OF A RECORD DEALL --LOL!

this is just a question but I want to ask you should R & B artists sell out? If their heart is R & B all day, every day, why do pop music just to sell records?

Its either sell out --or go get a job at Macy's if there are any left--LOL

I have a new R&B single scheduled for release tomorrow (2/10/09).
Perhaps I can get some help.
How can I let you hear it?

Hey Bernie. You can put your song up on the site if you want people to listen.

I am ,definitely, still in love with R & B. I wasn't ,necessarily, disappointed with these artists transition. i understand that artists try to broaden their horizons & not limit themselves to one box. Working in a variety of genres makes people more marketable, and well rounded, in my opinion

gotta ask you the same question: at what expense? If a publisher of your book told you that you needed to sound "less urban" to sell more books, would you?

Reply to This

I would never sell out on my belief in what I do. I have had publishers tell me to just mention "God" a little less or call Him "The One" or "The Enlightened One". That's why I self-published my books. I can't sell out what I believe. I have to stay true to myself or what do I have left?

Oh man this is a great question!! Okay here we go...

BARKAYS, CAMEO, MIDNIGHT STAR, ATLANTIC STAR, OHIO PLAYERS, CARL CARLTON, LAKESIDE, O'BRYAN, RENEE & ANGELA, etc....

There are so many I can't name them all, and I truly miss them. I miss good music, good lyrics that made you fall in love. There is way too much emphasis on HipHop and not enough people writing beautiful love songs. Even fast songs you can dance to. Old school R&B music was a great time! There was nothing like it. Currently I have seen a few artists who are trying to bring it back. Noel Gardin, Raheim, Brian McKnight and a few others. Music just doesn't have that sound anymore.

I'm still in love with R&B. Always will be. I think the smartest way for someone who is R&B who wants to get money like a "Pop" artist is to make the music, let them label it whatever they want & when they talk to you about being a R&B or Pop Artist just tell them that you don't categorize yourself. It seems to work on some level. It's hard to hate on someone who changes there sound after their first two cd's or so also because maybe that's the music they've wanted to make all along but the label insisted on something else for the first two albums. Most people don't get the chance to be true to themselves unless it's before they are signed & you hear that they've made or it's deeper into the career.
