I was around Daddy's House a lot (ahem, "in the shadows") while PRESS PLAY was being constructed. I say constructed because of all of the producers and ghostwriters and artists flowing in and out of all four rooms for the duration of the project.

Diddy IS NOT a monster. Dude is a shrewd business man - and he should be. He's not worth half a billi from talking sweet to people. Everyone who left BadBoy has disappeared. Where's the LOX? Total? Faith Evans? Carl Thomas? Ma$e was a different situation, but to respond to AGDM, when an artist understands his or her lane, they do well at BadBoy. Anywhere for that matter. Loon LEFT because he felt since he was writing the hits, he should get the entire check. Now he's getting NO CHECK. Look what happened at Rocafella. Everyone who wanted to be TOP DAWG is gone. Bleek stayed in his lane. The fans pretty much decided who was poppin'. Record execs don't hold people back. They want to MAKE money. Jada and the LOX made a statement on Hot97 finally saying that things weren't as bad as they'd made them out to be at BadBoy. They were making money and had exposure. Now when an album drops, it's only heard about in the Tri-State.

Lesson to newbies: STAY IN YOUR LANE
I'll leave it there.

but let me ask u this why did they all leave badboy n why is badboy a deduction to diddy n not a source of income. i feel what u r saying but this is the same things that whites said to slaves when they asked for freedom. total was nothing w/o colabos, faith did well w/o badboy, lox did nothing till wild out, carl thomas okay i give u that, what about mary j blige she got bigger w/o puff n many of these acts were 3-4 songs in before they left that's the life span of most artists.

i know u look up to puff but he markets himself not his artists. n i'm not taking a stance on the matter but let's state facts on the subject if all these artists had issues w money since they all write, produce, arrange n perform why shouldn't they get a larger share. we know that they black ball artists it came out when puff lost distribution n rocafella went after his artists n puff got mad.

bleek is the worst example to give though the roc fell off when dam dash lost his fire for promotion n jay-z got the big head.

we can also say what has puffy done since mase left n i'm not talking boy n girl bands. puffy is a rights collecter and who can knock his hustle he says ya or nay and is damn good at it. as for mentoring successful what exec has come from his camp or any other to be a top name. bently don't count cause he's an entertainer. we are talking mentoring successful execs.

and the question was who would work for puffy n not with it is a whole different subject. when u work for u r an employee n when u work w u r a peer o colaborator o independent rep.

but like i said i not sayn ya or nay here jus that the facts r not for puffy breeding success o any other black record exec of his generation o after.

I wouldn't work for Diddy just because of how he treats his artists. Danity Kane is a prime example (out of the many back-n-the-days). The group is broken because he isn't feeling Aubrey's look. And just because D.Woods, had a little something to say, she got all caught up in that as well. He is a beast and what he says goes No matter what. I have never been a good follower...So we would definitely bump heads but I respect his hustle. I don't respect his character. But when you sit down and think about the Black owned Independent Labels, all of the moguels are the same. None of the artist on anyone's label gets as big as the HNIC. Look at TI/Grand Hustle and his roster of talents; Ludacris/DTP and I can name a couple more..But the artist that sign to these Independent Lables never receive the amount of recognition or status that the main artist receive (no matter how much talent they have). It seems like you are better off going up under a Major Record label, praying for the best outcome, and building your own brand.

wow that was too deep, i feel that but the only problem w that thought process is that u never once said that u would create ur own label. in reality ever artist has to think of themselves as independent labels. it is called branding, no one knows what label prince, mj, steve wonder, marvin gaye, the beatles, u2 or anyother mega star is or was on. they were the brand and not the label. till we go back to that type of thinking it will all be the same.

i feel u but the resolution is to question, i make a living out of showing up and coming artists how to think, act, and respond like a brand. busta rhymes has been on a number of labels but he still i busta rhymes n he reps flip mode squad, he understands the branding concept.
